In the beginning... How often do we take time to really let those famous three words that are taken from the opening poem that is found in the Bible really sink in? My guess is not often. Even when those words are read in corporate settings, we tend to rush past them to get to the 'meat' of Creation's story, don't we? But what if those three words were the 'meat' of the story and what followed after was simply the dessert? In other words, what if the time God took to imagine what could be, to dream, to design, and to collaborate within the various aspects of God's nature, were precisely what enabled the complexity and beauty of Creation to unfold in ways that continue to expand and reverberate throughout the universe today? And, what if being 'bearers of God's image' means that the very same power and potential exists within us to continue to add to the goodness of all that is and will be? I know that's a lot of 'what ifs'. Yet, I can't help but wonder if we sometimes miss out on the magnitude of our creative potential in a culture that often values productivity and efficiency over taking risks and change. Whether or not that is true, I do think we often miss both the joy and potential of all that could be by simply rushing to duplicate what already has been. It is not uncommon to hear people say, "Things need to change." But, if we always do what we have always done, nothing changes.
As we begin to emerge from our sheltering, I am all the more mindful lately of to what we might emerge and how we might create space for new possibilities. We have an incredible opportunity right now to re-create our daily lives in ways that will enable us (not just some of us, but all of us) to start living into our fullest potential. So what is it you want to create? What new possibilities have you dreamed about lately? This week, I invite you take time and create space - mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. As you do, allow yourself to intentionally listen deeply within for whatever new possibilities might be brewing within you. Sometimes, collaborating with others can help to stir our creativity. We would love nothing more than to help you build the life that is yours to build and to make the difference only you can make!
